A thoughtfully designed infinity pool brings movement, balance and quiet luxury to a leafy Castle Cove backyard
Crystal Pools – 2026 Pool of the Year Awards Entrant
Set within the established surrounds of Castle Cove, this above-ground infinity pool is a study in restraint, craftsmanship and considered design. Rather than competing with its environment, the pool responds directly to it — echoing existing curves, embracing the site’s rise, and creating a seamless visual connection to the home’s outdoor entertaining spaces.
Designed and built by Crystal Pools, the pool was shaped by the existing curved retaining wall and the way the water feature would be experienced from the home’s central outdoor gathering area. From this vantage point, the pool reads as a calm, sculptural form — its soft arc drawing the eye, while the infinity edge creates a continuous line of water that appears to spill effortlessly into the landscape below.

The design challenge lay in balancing beauty with practicality on a uniquely contoured block. With changes in level and limited space, the pool needed to feel generous without overwhelming the setting. Crystal Pools’ solution was to create a compact yet highly refined wet-edge pool that maximises visual impact while maintaining functional ease for everyday use.
Featuring an infinity wet edge paired with frameless glass fencing, the pool delivers a tranquil water-on-water effect that enhances the sense of openness and flow throughout the backyard. The glass fencing allows uninterrupted views across the curved infinity wall, reinforcing the feeling of lightness and movement while keeping safety considerations discreetly in place.
Material selection plays a key role in the pool’s refined finish. Resort White pebble lining creates a soft, luminous water colour, complemented by fully tiled infinity gutters and walls that ensure continuity from every angle. Natural stone coping, cut to a substantial 300mm thickness, grounds the design and provides a tactile contrast to the shimmering water surface.
By day, the pool reflects shifting light and foliage, becoming a calm visual anchor to the outdoor space. By night, subtle illumination from three EvoMAX Multi lights brings depth and atmosphere, transforming the pool into a gently glowing feature that enhances evening entertaining.

Behind the scenes, the pool is equipped with high-performance systems designed for longevity and ease of use. A Pentair SilentFlo pump, Waterco media filtration with glass media, low-salt chlorination and a Dolphin robotic cleaner ensure efficient operation, while heating via an Oasis heat pump extends the swimming season well beyond summer.
This Castle Cove project is a clear example of Crystal Pools’ commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Every detail — from the precision of the tiled infinity wall to the seamless integration with the surrounding landscape — reflects the company’s deep experience and exacting standards.
The result is a pool that feels both purposeful and serene. It doesn’t demand attention, yet it quietly elevates the entire outdoor environment — a place to gather, unwind, and enjoy the simple luxury of water in motion.

Company Profile
Aside from being Australia’s most experienced pool company, Crystal Pools stands apart from residential-only pool builders because it also constructs Australia’s most outstanding commercial pool projects — landmark Sydney CBD hotel pools for Crowne, Sofitel and Capella (Sandstones Precinct). Crystal Pools applies the same high standards of craftsmanship in your backyard as it does to its FINA-standard Olympic pools like North Sydney Aquatic and the Commonwealth Games swimming complex on the Gold Coast.
Since its inception in 1957, Crystal Pools has continuously produced both residential and commercial pools. “As Australia’s longest-operating pool company, we have always restricted the number of residential pools we take on each year to just a few hundred, pursuing a policy of quality over quantity,” says marketing manager Andrew Rothery. “Our approach produces award-winning pools that are built to stand the test of time. We are Australia’s most experienced in-ground concrete swimming pool builder. We build it right the first time. We back it. We warrant it. We honour it.”
After nearly 70 years in business, Crystal Pools has won more than 270 major state and national awards. The directors who run and work in the business are well known in the industry and have a passion for delivering quality without compromise. In nearly every suburb of Sydney there’s a Crystal pool standing the test of time.
