Filter media changes and the benefits for your pool

Cleaning out the filter and changing the filter media consistently can make a huge difference to the overall condition of your pool

Filter media changes and the benefits for your pool

Why is changing the filter media important?

No matter what kind of filter media you have, the media does need to be changed at some point, so the filter maintains its filtration performance. If you leave it too long between changes, the filter can become quite clogged and be unable to do its job correctly – this leaves your pool susceptible to cloudy water and poor water circulation.

How often do I need to change my filter cartridge?

This depends on what sort of filter media you have. Cartridges need to be changed every 2 to 3 years, but more often may be required if the most frequent users of the pool use lots of sunscreen, tanning lotions or hair products. It is also advisable that you rinse out the cartridge every few weeks, especially after a large number people have used the pool.

How often do I need to change my filter sand?

If you own a sand filter, you may be able to leave the same sand in there for around 5 to 7 years if your pool is generally in good condition. It is highly recommended that a filter clean and degrease is performed routinely with the use of Aqua~Health Natural Filter Cleaner. Aqua~Health Natural filter Cleaner is a non-polluting water-soluble cleaner that is readily biodegradable. It is very effective in removing oils and fats by breaking them down and solubilising them allowing the filter media to be easily cleaned by rinsing and backwashing.

Ask your local Swimart about upgrading your filter media to Zeoplus or Glass Pearls.

How often do I need to change my D.E filter grids?

If your pool is well maintained and the the D.E filter grids are properly cared for, they should last around 5 to 10 years before requiring replacement.
