Transformative kitchen renovation

It’s easy to believe in magic when you consider the amazing transformation this kitchen has undergone.

Once dowdy and impractical, in traditional farmhouse style, with pastel-green doors and pine-look benchtops, the old kitchen was in desperate need of a makeover. Jason Levin from Dean Kitchens took one look at the old space and knew he could make a massive improvement.

Just look at the end result. Crisp and cool, the cabinetry in sophisticated grey and white gives the kitchen a contemporary feel while the layout is warm and inviting.
Functionality has not been forgotten with Jason creating a “tall wall” to house the refrigerator, two pantries and an appliance tower complete with microwave. All drawers under the bench utilise the space for maximum storage with soft-closing mechanisms taking care of items inside.

One of the owners’ original pieces of furniture is the solid jarrah dining table and it was important that the new kitchen work with this existing item, so Jason specially selected the red splashback and grey cabinets to enhance the aesthetic of this feature piece. Two-tone cabinetry emphasises the sleek, streamlined design with a waterfall edge to the breakfast bar anchoring the kitchen to the floor.

Additional storage has been cleverly included at the front of the kitchen using push-latches on the panels that face the dining area to provide an extra 300mm of cupboard space.

Structurally, the design required major modification with the relocation of a number of items to make the design more functional. For example, the old walk-in pantry was closed in to make way for the new hot plate area that was previously located where the new pantry now resides. This has allowed for set-down space to either side of the hot plate — a practical must.

“This is a really special kitchen,” says Jason. “The red glass splashback makes a really bold statement and the kitchen has an air of sophistication while maintaining a contemporary character that integrates seamlessly into the home.”
