Of unrivalled quality, Australian bluestone is hard-wearing, versatile and truly timeless

Bamstone bluestone offers unsurpassed quality and versatility. This superior stone is quarried from the basalt plains around beautiful Port Fairy in Victoria’s south-west. These are the third-largest volcanic plains in the world, formed during volcanic eruptions more than six million years ago.

Bamstone bluestone is 100 per cent Australian and is the purest bluestone in the world. It is consistent in colour, texture and appearance and will stand the test of time.

Bamstone produces a broad array of bluestone products, including paving, steps and risers, cladding, pool coping, drop-down pool edges and drystone walls. Bamstone also manufactures bluestone cobblestones, honed interior floors, hearths, fireplaces and furniture that ranges from tabletops to benches. Decorative pieces, such as ponds, water features and landscape rocks, are also part of the Bamstone repertoire.

The versatility of bluestone is undeniable and Bamstone has used this quality stone to great effect to create beautiful living spaces, both indoors and out, in a diverse range of residential and commercial projects. The stunning home showcased here is a luxury property in the Melbourne suburb of Toorak and an inspiring example of how Bamstone bluestone can serve as a design centrepiece.

Select-grade Bamstone bluestone was used for both the interiors and exteriors of this development. Inside the home, the rawness of honed natural stone contrasts beautifully with the honeyed warmth of the timber flooring. The stone flows seamlessly from the interior to the exterior, helping to soften the lines between the natural and built spaces within the property.

Underfloor heating was installed beneath the bluestone flooring. An unexpected, but delightful consequence of this was that the stone insulated the home evenly and efficiently. Outside, a feature wall creates a spectacular backdrop for the pool area. Backlighting highlights the stone’s innate features, creating a natural and elegant space.

Bamstone bluestone has also been an integral component of several award-winning gardens, including the gardens that won the coveted Best in Show awards at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show in 2014 and 2015, and a Silver Gilt Medal-winning garden at London’s Chelsea Flower Show. Bamstone itself won a Best Export award from the Australian Stone Advisory Association in 2014.

Established 40 years ago, Bamstone is a family-owned and -operated company that has built its reputation on the quality of its product and the friendliness of its service. Everything the Bamstone family does is done with a genuine warmth.

The Bamstone team is also inspired by the challenge of creating solutions to individual problems. There is no “one size fits all” approach — each project is approached with a clear eye to creating customised features for each client.
