Leading their design team is Hilary Ward, who was recently awarded KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year for Queensland, as well as being recognised as a finalist in the HIA Kitchen of the Year awards for 2022.
Hilary has more than 15 years’ experience in the interior design industry, starting out in soft furnishings and interior decorating and quickly developing a passion for creating the unexpected within a space. After spending eight years fine-tuning her craft, Hilary jumped across to the hard finishes sector and has built a wealth of knowledge learning from some of the best craftsmen in the industry.
With a Certificate IV in Kitchen & Bathroom Design to complement her Diploma of Interior Design, Hilary understands the importance of practicality within a design and loves being able to work directly with clients to create functional yet stylish joinery for any space.
“I love being able to create something different and unexpected for my clients — the greatest compliment they could ever give me is ‘I never thought of that’,” she says. The man behind the brand, Todd Myles, just wants to “build cool stuff, with cool people, in cool houses” — and that’s exactly what Urban Kitchens and Joinery does. In six years, the company has delivered more than 16 million dollars in joinery projects for Brisbane’s best builders and architects. This approach also led to Todd’s recent accolade — winner of the HIA Queensland Kitchen of the Year award.
