DECO director turned owner/builder, Meika Doonan, shares her build journey in this new online series – The DECO House.
The journey to rebuild Meika’s family home has been captured in The DECO House, a seven part video series that follows her through key stages of the build — from the front façade and garage to the decking and beyond.
More than simply documenting a build, The DECO House explores the realities of designing for Australia’s unique conditions. From bushfire resilience and heavy rainfall to heat, durability and long-term maintenance, the series demonstrates how thoughtful material selection can help create a home that performs just as well as it looks.
Hosted by Meika, whose family has spent more than two decades manufacturing aluminium building products through DECO Australia, the series combines professional knowledge with the personal experience of rebuilding a family home.
“After experiencing flood damage, you think very differently about what you want from your home,” says Meika.
“It wasn’t just about creating a beautiful house. Every decision became about how our home would perform over time, how it would withstand the climate and whether the materials we chose would continue to look and perform for years to come.”
