A Kitchen With Personality

The Forest Lodge kitchen renovation by Dezign Kitchens showcases a thoughtful transformation of a space that was once too modern for its own good. The previous design featured a high-gloss black freestanding island in a hyper-modern galley style, but it created an impractical layout with cramped movement and constant cleaning challenges. The island’s glossy black finish attracted fingerprints and marks, making it a constant maintenance headache for the clients.

After consulting with three different design firms, the clients reached out to Dezign Kitchens, hoping to create a space that felt more personalised and functional. They wanted a kitchen that not only offered better storage but also reflected their personalities and allowed them to feel more comfortable in the heart of their home.

In designing the new kitchen, the focus was to create a warm and inviting atmosphere by seamlessly integrating it with the open-plan living area, incorporating multiple textures that matched the client’s style and decor to complement and enhance the living space.

The standout feature of this kitchen is the use of a custom patinaed bronze material on the barback and overhead cabinet which is balanced beautifully by the warm, muted green tones and natural timber wall battens.

The mirrored splashback adds depth and reflects the natural light from the living area. Additionally, the integrated warm white LED strip lighting highlights the natural beauty of the timber and bronze elements, fostering a calm and welcoming environment.

In terms of layout, the switch from a galley-style to a U-shape was a key move to unlock additional storage and make the space more functional. This new configuration freed up valuable storage space along one entire wall while maintaining a natural flow between the kitchen and dining area. It’s a great example of how a U-shape can work just as effectively as a galley layout when tailored to the unique needs of the client and the space.
