Dark and dapper

Black is the new black and indulgence is allowed in this unique renovation. A closed-in kitchen with separate pantry has been opened and integrated, remodelled and polished, to establish a free-flowing space of modernised decadence. A feature white island bench carved from Quantum Quartz pairs with white surrounding walls and simple grey tiles to offset an arrangement of black finishes that begin with a long Nero Assoluto Essastone benchtop around the Smeg cooktop. Matt black cabinetry by Lamicolor reaches nearly to the ceiling to provide plenty of kitchen storage. A smoked mirror splashback sends light from the Hettich LED downlights around the room, matched nicely by the Spiegel Smokey Grey laminate kickboards by Halifax Vogel. Meanwhile, feature accents in timber frame the cooktop bench and a timber dining extension onto the island bench is finished in Chalet Oak laminate by Lamicolor, giving the room a warm competing colour and grainy focal texture. A black granite sink by Franke and a matt black tap on the white island unit confirms the kitchen’s dark, brooding roots — the perfect finishing touches to a gregarious, contemporary space.
