Modern townhouse living

Textures of marble and timber combine with stunning effect in this beachside townhouse

In an enviable location opposite Williamstown Beach in Victoria, this brand-new two-level townhouse exudes comfort and luxury with its high-quality finishes and fresh modern style. “Our client wanted a modern, minimalist look that is practical and cutting edge,” says Con Moshopoulos of Urban Kitchens, who designed and built the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, linen press and robes for this new build. In a dream come true for the team at Urban Kitchens, their developer client “went all out” for the project, only wanting the best finishes to create the most stunning look possible.

The design itself was a team effort, says Con, who worked alongside client Steve from Top Level Developments to conceptualise and finalise the design for each room. The end result is luxurious and shows the dedication of all involved. Reconstituted Arcadian oak timber veneer in Chocolate Brown sets a decadent mood in the kitchen. The lavish atmosphere is further enhanced with the use of Calacatta marble. Creating a sumptuous space, these same materials have been utilised in the bathroom and laundry areas. “Calacatta marble and New Age Veneer Arcadian oak add high-end appeal to the kitchen and bathroom,” says Con, pointing out the clever concealment of the laundry behind full-height bifold doors.

Calacatta marble tiles on the floor and walls of the bathroom make a bold statement, enveloping the homeowners in luxury. The deep-chocolate-hued floating vanity creates a stunning contrast while the fixtures that have been selected are sleek and modern.

In the kitchen, the same elements of contrast and texture give this open-plan space the sophisticated and cutting-edge style the owner was after, enhancing the geometric form of the benchtops and cabinetry.

“The veneer runs horizontally at the overhead cupboards and drawers to accentuate the linear detail of the extruded drawer pulls, while veneer runs vertically to emphasise height at the pantry doors,” explains Con. Clever design creates comfortable and convenient townhouse living throughout this project, which incorporates hardware that maximises storage. Blum hardware was used for the kitchen drawers and lift-up cupboards to ensure everything you need for entertaining is conveniently reached.

“We love this kitchen,” says Con, “especially its handle-free design and the secondary bench,” he adds. The waterfall bench, in chocolate veneer contrasting with the Calacatta marble of the main kitchen island bench, is a clever and functional design for the kitchen. The bench provides an extra space for casual dining, a breakfast bar, or even more preparation space if need be. It’s a social, functional kitchen design and importantly, also a very beautiful one.
