California inspiration: pool design
Universal Magazines

A complete redesign and makeover has transformed this backyard area into a functional and beautiful pool space to enhance the lifestyle of the owners

The Galvin Group, which offers complete design concepts and solutions, demolished the original ‘70s kidney-shaped pool and replaced it with something modern, while maintaining the style and integrity of the existing home. The result is a seamless integration of all outdoor areas, with the newest features built on flat, formal and useable levels.

Exfoliated bluestone coping and paving tiles complement the traditional facade of this Californian Bungalow, continuing the timeless feel right into the pool area. Mediterranean mosaic tiles glimmer within the pool interior, which features an in-built infinity-edged spa that allows the water to effortlessly flow over divisions. Shallow entry steps into still water are just right for those tranquil sojourns on hot summer days.

Shaded from the sizzling Adelaide sun, the poolside day-lounge offers a tranquil spot and the ideal space for reading and relaxing. Stone-capped pillars coupled with lit raised garden beds of Japanese box hedges and espalier magnolias spreading up rendered Tuscan fencing lend this design the feel of a modern coastal palace.

Flanked by the pool pavilion and the alfresco extension, also designed and built by The Galvin Group, this backyard reinvention encompasses the existing features of the house with a sympathetic emphasis on resort-style living.

Complete with a luxury outdoor kitchen, dining and lounge areas, the structured architecture of the property exudes a glamorous, silver-screen charm, perfect for outdoor gatherings and poolside parties all year round.
