By creating a seamless finish and removing all boundaries with the natural environment, this impeccably unique design in a splendid location is at the forefront of environment-focused exterior landscape design and construction.
The large and beautifully green undulating coastal property in Kiama, on the NSW South Coast, is backed by rocky escarpments and edged by the natural boundary of weathered sea cliffs. The gorgeous site was presented to Artesian Pools, which was tasked with bringing the design ideas of the client and BHI Architects to life. The result is an infinity-edge, environmentally friendly concrete pool and spa in a geometric rectangular shape.
“By maximising the benefits of a wet-edge design that visually blends without obstruction into the parallel lines of the horizon on the water beyond, the customer is offered ocean feels within the privacy of a home pool,” says Zeb Rodrigues of Artesian Pools.
All five primary human senses are catered to in this build, including endless and unobstructed views of the sparkling Tasman Sea to the east of Australia’s idyllic NSW south coast, the unimpeded sounds of ocean waves, and the unmistakable smell of ocean breezes.
Looking from the sea towards the house, the carefully chosen tile colour of the pool’s weir wall blends effortlessly with the formidable sandstone and volcanic rock colours provided by the majestic backdrop of the Illawarra ranges behind. Not even a rainy day can lessen the aesthetics of the design as the ripples created on the pool’s surface by the rain coalesce with the waves in the sea.
The south coast weather patterns and the high, open elevation of the block renders the pool and build site exposed to strong and quite icy incoming sea winds, especially during winter. Heating in both the pool and spa allows for maximum use and enjoyment throughout seasonal variances.
This project is a prime example of Artesian Pools’ motto, “The ability and experience behind the art”, and the company has built a pool and spa that are not only functional, but also a standout feature of the property. “We have created a build that complements the home and makes best use of available space, while also unobtrusively integrating into the surrounding landscape,” says Zeb. The pool is, in every aspect, an immaculate integration in a spectacular location, and a monumental focal feature of the home.
