The Design Institute of Australia – Australia’s only professional, multi-disciplinary design organisation – recently celebrated the opening of its new Design Gallery, a modern, public exhibition space at 175 Collins Street, Melbourne. The Design Gallery will host a continuing series of design-related displays and exhibits throughout the year.
City of Melbourne Councillor, Jennifer Kanis, opened the Design Gallery, describing it as “an exciting space for Australia’s designers”.

The gallery will focus on the work of students initially and expand at a future time to encompass post graduate work and mid and late career designers. It will present work in both two dimensional and three dimensional formats”.
The inaugural exhibition, ‘Tomorrow’s Design Today’, features the stimulating design work of finalists and category winners from the recently completed 2010 Australasian Student Design Awards (ASDA). Now in its 15th year, ASDA is a multidisciplinary awards program that attracts an exceptional range, depth and quality of entries from some forty tertiary educational institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand. The design disciplines represented are Interior Design, Interior Decoration, Exhibition/Design Design, Visual Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Textile Design, Jewellery Design and Fashion Design.
