With sleek lines and an elegant colour palette, the design of this striking river-front home speaks volumes.

modern homes

The Meridian, built by RiverStone, is nestled in the luxurious surrounds of Minim Cove. Arguably one of WA’s most sought-after addresses, Minim Cove is only minutes from some of Perth’s best private schools, restaurants and retail outlets, offering an enviable lifestyle, so it seemed like the perfect place to construct a large, sophisticated family home of superb quality, with impressive views overlooking the Swan River. RiverStone has built a reputation on designing and building fine homes; the grandeur of its designs evident throughout Perth’s most prestigious postcodes.

The Meridian is one of the latest show homes to be added to the RiverStone portfolio. Originally designed for a private client, the company has leased it back from the owners so the rest of Perth’s residents can delight in its superb appeal. “The aim was to make the most of the medium-sized block,” says Ken Regan of RiverStone. “The owner wanted a home that covered more than 600sqm of living space, one that would have a modern and light feel to it and include a large lap pool for exercise and relaxation.” Incorporating all of RiverStone’s trademark design attributes, such as the cedar-lined eaves and an environmentally friendly greywater recycling system, this home has all the modern comforts while representing a welcoming family lifestyle.

Spanning more than three levels, the home boasts spacious rooms, all with full-height glass windows carefully positioned to frame the panoramic water views. The panes of glass also allow natural light to flood in, adding to the light and bright ambience. The top level of the home is dedicated to a sleeping wing with four bedrooms and a central sitting room that has access to a large balcony. The separation of the sleeping and entertaining areas means every member of the family can have their own space and privacy. The main bathroom on this level has a modern and innovative design based around large tiles to give the effect of extra space. A freestanding oval bath encourages rest and respite. The bath sits opposite the double vanity unit where the mirrors reflect the city views, while an adjacent full-length mirror exhibits the latest in mirror TV technology. When switched off, the mirror appears as normal, but flick the on switch and a small HD television screen appears so the owners can keep up with the latest news and programs. A below-ground level of the home houses a home theatre, guest bedroom with ensuite, storage area and a wine cellar for all of the owners’ prized possessions.

The ground level is the heart of the home, built around an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space that provide a seamless connection between inside and out. The kitchen is fully appointed with all the latest appliances, including a wall-mounted plasma television. It is linked to the adjoining living spaces through the repetition of simple off-white and warm grey colour tones, natural timber flooring that extends throughout, and an alfresco configuration that can be completely closed off or opened for entertaining. Glass folding doors on three sides of the alfresco area mean it can be either incorporated as an internal living space or separated as an outdoor area. These options allow it to be used year-round no matter what the weather, and act as a central meeting point for the family. The outdoor area is highlighted by an impressive L-shaped lap pool that frames the home. The wide entry steps can be used as bench seats while the longest side promotes exercise with an extended swimming lane. Attractive timber decking also surrounds the pool, with a raised section making the most of the property’s views and providing room for a retractable pool cover to be installed underneath.

The angular lines of the home’s design are softened by the interior furnishings based around a subtle array of natural whites, browns and greys, specifically selected by the interior designers at Moda Interiors. RiverStone works closely with Moda Interiors and outdoor specialists Gentry Landscaping. This working relationship between the three individual companies means RiverStone’s clients have access to a professional interior designer and landscaper if they so desire as they all operate at the same address. “We understand that a lot of our clients are very busy people, so they don’t want to have to chase up lots of different companies while building their home,” Ken says. “We take care of every step of the process and having Moda and Gentry under the same roof means every aspect is on hand and the client can simply enjoy the end result.” A special feature of RiverStone show homes, including The Meridian, is that what you see is what you get. Bar a few of the additions, such as the mirror TV technology, all the usual extras come standard in The Meridian, including the floor coverings, window treatments and the pool.

RiverStone’s guarantee that “no two homes designed and built by the company will be exactly the same” means clients can build their own take on The Meridian while adding their own personal touches. In this way, every RiverStone home is an original.
