Creating spaces that are both visually appealing and practical, Alan Schull and his team are masters of design

Meet Alan Schull, the man behind Kitchen Shop Qld on the Sunshine Coast. With the creativity and knowledge to back it up, Alan has more than 40 years’ experience in the design industry and has spent the last 20 years making Sunshine Coast kitchen and bathroom renovations a dream come true for his clients.

“I was a cabinetmaker and I worked in a Brisbane company that gave me training in every aspect of cabinetmaking, installation, drafting, designing, production management, project management and consulting,” says Alan. “After 23 years, I decided to make the Sunshine Coast home for my family. We pride ourselves on our family business and we like to support local — a lot of our business is from repeat customers. Our staff, who are our family and become our family, are our biggest assets. Both my son and daughter have extensive knowledge in the industry and expertise in making our customers feel at home, and this is what sets us apart.”

Kitchen Shop Qld has collected many accolades over the years. Some of the most recent include the 2018 Corian award in Category 3 Residential, the HIA silver award for Kitchen Renovation of $50,000, and the Housing & Construction award in the Best Kitchen category. Alan is big on quality, which no doubt contributes to the high standard of his projects, as well as the awards they receive. “We are very proud of the fact that one of our projects received the 2018 National Corian Design Award,” he says. “We always like to provide our customers with the latest design and technology options, as well as keep up to date with the most current trends and interior designs.”

When asked about recent trends and his predictions for the coming year, Alan says two-tone kitchens will be very popular, as well as Shaker-style and Hamptons-style spaces. Innovative hardware and fixtures are wildly popular at the moment, and probably will be for years to come. Alan also predicts that 2019 will see a rise in popularity of bright feature colours.

Passionate and humble, Alan reiterates the importance of consistently growing and making sure that each new project is better than the last. He goes back to the basics for most of his designs and allows clients to inject their own personality, whatever style they choose. “Some people still love the heritage style for hinterland homes while others prefer modern and contemporary designs,” he says. “We work with clients to ensure they get exactly what they want on budget.”
