Coastal Elegance: A Modern Bohemian Abode Overlooking Sydney’s Northern Beaches

Located on the northern beaches of Sydney, nestled above the cliff edge overlooking the picturesque coast, this stunning abode designed by Gremmo Homes encapsulates the natural environment and all its elements.

Entering this spectacular home through a custom blackbutt door, guests are immediately consumed by the beauty of the view and the simplicity of the design. A modern bohemian vibe has influenced the styling and materials chosen, incorporating a palette of glass, stone and natural timbers. Seamless integration between the internal and external spaces adds to the relaxed feel and laid-back atmosphere.

The facade is lined with Berrimah natural stone and blackbutt battens, which will age naturally over time in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Berrimah has also been used as the fireplace surround in the family room, further emphasising the relationship between the exterior and interior of the home. Natural stone tiles and custom blackbutt vanities in the bathrooms also add to the earthy feel.

The vast windows throughout make the most of the breathtaking views, while intelligent design invites and embraces the coastal breeze. Designer Jeremy McCulla from Urban Harmony Design has ensured the living areas of the home make the most of the northerly aspect while also utilising the pool to reflect abundant natural light throughout the home. The superb open-plan layout seamlessly connects the multiple levels of the house, with the open staircase ensuring the views remain uninterrupted.

The kitchen beckons the fussiest cook, incorporating slick Miele appliances throughout, Dolomite Super White benchtops, V-groove panelling and blackbutt cabinetry to complement the timber flooring.

This resort-style family home also considers its younger occupants with a chic games room, a mudroom to reduce the clutter, and a pool complete with an underwater glass viewing window to the home.

A dwelling of this scale in such a beautiful location deserves multiple entertaining spaces, and they don’t come better than the backyard firepit and modern wet bar. There is also a fully equipped gym and media room.

The home limits its environmental impact through solar passive design and ventilation in conjunction with photovoltaic power generation and double-glazed windows. Intelligent home automation and programming ensures the dwelling operates efficiently, with minimal wastage of resources.

Having built many homes throughout Sydney’s northern beaches, Andrew Gremmo from Gremmo Homes was particularly excited by the opportunity this site presented. “The location of this home is incredible,” he enthuses. “After our original meeting with the owners, we knew they had a very clear vision of what they wanted to achieve. As the design of the house came together, we were certain this would become an amazing project — and it has. Harsh Australian coastal conditions as well as a challenging geotechnical landscape have all been considered in the engineering and construction of this home. Exposure-grade brickwork and ultra-steel roofing will ensure the house can withstand the elements for many years to come. More importantly, the owners are just as ecstatic as we are with the completed home.”

Integrated design, environmental consideration and attention to detail have ensured this stunning new home is now a landmark of Turimetta Headland where it stands, and will remain so into the future. It also explains why this home was named the winner of the 2021 Master Builders Association Award for Design and Construct House $2-$2.5million.
