When you’ve lived with very little bench space, as the owners of this kitchen once did, it becomes very apparent how vital this element is in how well a kitchen functions. The old kitchen was a U-shape with timber veneer doors and a timber benchtop but a terrible design and layout meant a lack of work space in the two areas that most needed it: the sink and stovetop.

Working closely on the new design with Kevin Carnell of Kitchens Victoria, the owners can now enjoy a kitchen that is well laid out with all the preparation space they need. The new kitchen features plenty of light and its warm ambience makes every guest feel welcome. Now that the owners can easily move within and around the kitchen, they feel more relaxed about entertaining.

The style of the kitchen was very important and the owners had requested elements of a modern design but with Shaker-style profile doors and stone benchtops. To make the cabinetry in Alabaster stand out as the main feature, Kevin has chosen to conceal appliances where possible and add simple satin chrome shell handles to the base cabinets.

CaesarStone Ice Snow is the perfect choice to complement the cabinetry, which is highlighted here and there with a country cap mould above the overhead cupboards. Visual highlights include the mosaic tiled splashback and wide central island bench.

For ease of use and aesthetics, a white ceramic sink was undermounted to create a seamless line across the smooth surface of the benchtop.

As a beautiful complement to the white cabinets, the blackbutt floorboards are a dramatic touch that adds just the right tone to the room. “The kitchen is light, spacious and very relaxing to work in,” says Kevin.
