The pressure was definitely on in week two for the two teams, as the Blue Tongue’s struggled to keep to the budget and the Redback’s recover from their loss in week one. Working with two different styles – Modern Scandi (Blue Tongues) versus Modern vintage (Redbacks), both teams created unique, practical and beautiful kitchens. Freedom Kitchens takes a look at week two’s transformations and how the homeowners reacted to the reveal.
The Blue Tongues, Jemma and Ben dramatically transformed Jess and Doug’s canary yellow bench-top kitchen, to a modern Scandinavian open plan design. Working with Freedom Kitchen’s, they chose a classic Scandi white base cabinetry with matt black overheads to tie in with the sink including splashes of copper lighting to enhance the modern look. The Caesarstone® bench-tops in Frosty Carrina, partners well with the colour scheme and allows for more living and entertaining room, which is a winning component for homeowner Jess; “The white subway tiled splash-back links the front half of our house which is of the 1940s era, and the open plan design makes this a central part of home, giving us a fantastic connection to the lounge and garden.”
Josh and Jenna from the Redbacks were asked to create a kitchen appealing to homeowner Kaye’s sense of nostalgia, whilst also appealing to her children’s request for a modern look. To combine the two, Josh and Jenna used Freedom Kitchens’ Fresh Spring Flair pastel blue cabinetry with open timber shelving and soft grey bench-tops in Caesarstone® London Grey to create a modern look. In keeping with vintage style, they included a butler’s sink with a large alfresco entertaining area as well as ensuring the space is maximized using Le Mans corner system. Homeowner Kaye is thrilled with both the practicality of the kitchen and vintage design; “When you walk in the front door, you are drawn to the kitchen. I am definitely planning to have more friends over for dinner parties, and I love it that the kids can have their breakfast at the bench while I get the school lunches ready of a morning.”
