From the onset this kitchen is set to impress. Stepping into the space visitors are instantly drawn to the room’s subtle elegant finishes — from the coarse brush marks found on the handpainted cupboards and the beautiful tumbled marble splashbacks with handcrafted feature tiles, to the regency flutes adorned with carved rosettes found at intervals throughout the kitchen.
Housed in a 20-year-old-plus home, the former kitchen was small and cramped. Designer Jurek Polkowski of Dana Kitchens decided to rectify this situation by opening up the room to include the small adjoining lounge area, creating a light and airy space.
With its carved corbels and decorative mouldings, the magnificent bench-to-ceiling French-inspired canopy hood provides a focal point for the space and is upstaged only by the extra-large limestone-topped island, which encompasses a solid butcher’s block table made from recycled Queensland hardwood at one end. The island bench is positioned in the centre of the room to break up the large space and to provide easy access to the cooking and serving areas.
A number of glazed bar cabinets, displaying the owners’ crockery and other treasured pieces, are also dotted around the space. The end panels and internal backs of the display cupboards and open shelving are routed regency-style to complement the room’s timeless elegance.
Plenty of storage has been provided in the form of a roomy pantry. Every base cupboard has also been topped by shallow drawers to allow for even further storage.
Boasting the opulence of a bygone era, this elegant kitchen is sure to stand the test of time.
